After 8 years serving in Thailand, we returned to NZ in December 2019.

In January 2022 we moved from Auckland CBD to Mount Eden; 6 minutes away.

We had been managing a student hostel at the top of Queen Street for 2 years, when an opportunity presented itself to manage a similar student hostel in Mount Eden.

Eden Christian Hostel has been providing student accommodation since 1967 and previous to that it was housing for Missionaries.

This year, at Eden we have 33 students from all around New Zealand. Four of our students are ‘Residential assistants’ (RA’s) who take responsibility for the student orientation week, the evening dishes, social activities and engaging with the students on multiple levels. We mentor and support the 4 RA students in their role.

One of the things that makes Eden Christian hostel different from other hostels is the intentionality of the community, with a focus on Faith, Life and Study. 

The compulsory Monday night ‘Community Catch Up’ meetings provide an opportunity for personal growth, reflection, and the building of life long friendships. During these meetings we cover a variety of topics, like Stress management, and have various panels throughout the year covering practical topics like ‘Flatting’ and others, such as Relationships.
